Our recovery nurses will carefully monitor you after surgery until the anesthesia wears off. Once it does, they will give you prescriptions for pain management and explain how to take care of your incisions. You must have someone to drive you home and stay with you for the first 48 hours after your surgery so that you can rest.
We will send you home wearing a surgical bra and a compression garment which you will wear full time (day and night) for at least 6 weeks. Because Dr. Tehrani uses a nerve-blocking technique that lasts about nine hours, you will not be in much pain immediately after your mommy makeover.
Dr. Tehrani will personally call you to follow up after your mommy makeover plastic surgery. You will be given our 24-hour contact number in case you need assistance outside of business hours.
Because mommy makeovers are so customized, your recovery will also be unique. Dr. Tehrani recommends mommy makeover patients take three weeks off of work and avoid driving for two weeks. Because you cannot lift more than ten pounds, you will need help with your children, pets, or household chores for one to two weeks. Most patients start to feel more like themselves after two weeks and feel much better three weeks after surgery. You can start light cardio at around two weeks if you feel up to it. You can resume more strenuous activity at around six weeks.
Most patients wear compression full time for about two to three months and as needed after that. If you have breast implants, Dr. Tehrani will monitor your recovery and let you know when your breasts are settled and you are ready for an underwire bra, usually around three months.
During the early part of your recovery, you will be very tired and likely feel tender, swollen, or bruised in the various treatment areas. In addition to wearing compression garments as directed, Dr. Tehrani highly recommends icing these areas occasionally to reduce swelling.
It is common to feel tightness to your breasts after breast surgery and along the midline of your abdomen if undergoing a tummy tuck. In the areas that we liposuction, you may feel burning, stinging, numbness, tingling, or sharp/shooting pains. These sensations may be prominent the first few weeks to months and will gradually lessen. Typically by one year after surgery, you will have normal sensation to these areas and along your incision line.
